The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB), a division of the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. (USBC), will premiere the ‘Digital Sales Strategy for Commercial Broadcasters’ podcast series, hosted by NABOB Director of Marketing and Communications, Ashley Smith, Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023.

The 10-episode video and audio podcast series covering digital sales strategy and digital publishing brings together key leadership across commercial broadcasting operations. Season one featured guests showcase the departments, roles, functions, and contributions needed to develop, scale, and monetize successful digital sales departments.

New episodes will be released bi-weekly on the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB) YouTube Channel, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and all major streaming platforms.

Ashley Smith, NABOB Director of Marketing and Communications, and Founder & CEO of Dimensions Media Creative Marketing Agency, generated millions in digital sales revenue and developed her acumen for digital sales and content production as the former digital sales strategist and as a branded content producer in radio markets Atlanta (CBS Radio: V-103, 92.9 The Game, and WAOK 1380) and New York (Emmis Communications: Hot 97, WBLS 107.5, WLIB 1190).

Within season one, NABOB members and audiences will have the opportunity to learn the latest digital news, including trends and monetization strategies from industry leaders within digital publishing and production (Jeffrey Thacker), radio programming (Skip Dillard), digital sales management and integrated marketing (Avery Green), intellectual property law (Dayna Cooper), and technology and advertising operations (Jeff Nelson).

Additionally, audiences will learn proven strategies to increase audience engagement and profitability via useful tips within social media, editorial planning, graphic design, streaming, content production, video, and more! ‘Digital Sales Strategy for Commercial Broadcasters’ is ideal for digital content teams, social media teams, sales management, and digital sales teams.

Ashley Smith stated, ”I am excited to share the digital sales knowledge base and all-star expert network that I have developed while working in radio. The evolution of media is inevitable, and it is critical that Black owned broadcasters are equipped with the necessary tools, guidance, and resources required to compete in the ever-changing media landscape. Through this digital sales podcast, NABOB members will increase their capability offerings, providing new opportunities for monetization. It is also my hope that a new generation of digital publishers will learn the intrinsic value of commercial broadcasting via the new ‘How to Buy A Commercial Broadcast Station’ podcast.”

The Radio Advertising Bureau’s (RAB) digital revenue benchmarking report, conducted in partnership with Borrell Associates, anticipates that radio will reach $2 billion in digital sales in 2023. In 2022, radio’s digital sales generated $1.8 billion for a 21.1% year-over-year increase. This continued revenue growth presents Black owned broadcasters with additional methods to increase their value proposition to the communities they serve and advertisers.

NABOB is the first recipient of the General Motors Diverse Owned Media Incubator Fund. As part of General Motors’ “Road to Equity” efforts to become the most inclusive company in the world, the $50 million Diverse Owned Media Incubator Fund is an investment allocated over the next 10 years to support and scale diverse media and marketing companies. To achieve the mission of the fund, NABOB created two original video and audio podcast series covering commercial broadcast station acquisition (How to Buy a Commercial Broadcast Station) and digital sales strategy (Digital Sales Strategy for Commercial Broadcasters).

Jim Winston, NABOB President and CEO said, “I am very pleased to present the ‘Digital Sales Strategy for Commercial Broadcasters’ podcast series. GM’s support of this effort is very important for NABOB.” Winston added, “Ashley is very knowledgeable in this area, and she has assembled a great team of experts. Digital advertising is the primary growth area in the media advertising industry, and our NABOB members will learn how to grow their share of digital advertising dollars from these podcasts. This podcast series has the potential to substantially increase advertising revenues for our members.”
