The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB) to premiere the ‘How to Buy a Commercial Broadcast Station’ podcast series, hosted by NABOB President and CEO, Jim Winston.
The 10-episode video and audio podcast series serves as a master class showcasing the fundamental processes and essential team of advisors needed to purchase a commercial broadcast radio or television station successfully.
New episodes will be released bi-weekly on the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB) YouTube Channel, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and all major streaming platforms.
NABOB President & CEO, Jim Winston, a telecommunications attorney with over 40 years of broadcast station acquisition experience, assembles a power-packed lineup featuring a broadcast television station owner (DuJuan McCoy), and experts in the fields of policy and law (Dan Kirkpatrick), finance (Ty Shea), station brokerage (Larry Patrick), and engineering (John Matthews).
The ‘How to Buy a Commercial Broadcast Station’ podcast was created for NABOB members, potential radio & television station owners, broadcast radio & television senior management, and successful entrepreneurs looking to diversify. Additionally, this podcast is for anyone working in entry and mid-level positions in the media and advertising industries.
In season one, audiences will uncover real-world guidance and application best practices regarding due diligence, station brokerage, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations, access to capital, technology, business operations, human resources, and more!
Jim Winston stated, “I am very pleased that NABOB can present this series of podcasts. We are frequently contacted by entrepreneurs looking to become station owners. This first series of podcasts provides an education that cannot be found anywhere. We have assembled some of the leading experts in the broadcast industry to take an entrepreneur through every aspect of station acquisition. We are confident that this critical information will be a great benefit to those entrepreneurs and to anyone interested in an in-depth education about station acquisition and operations. Our second series of podcasts will educate existing station owners about how to develop and monetize their digital assets. Knowing how to develop and monetize a digital sales department is critical for all media companies today. Our experts will provide important guidance in this area.”
Blacks make up 13 percent of the American population, yet, own only 2 percent of all commercial broadcast stations in the U.S., and receive only 2 percent of media advertising revenue.
The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB), a U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. (USBC) division, is the first recipient of the General Motors Diverse Owned Incubator Fund. As part of General Motors’ “Road to Equity” efforts to become the most inclusive company in the world, the $50 million Diverse Owned Incubator Fund is an investment allocated over the next ten years to support and scale diverse media and marketing companies. To achieve the fund’s mission, NABOB created two original video and audio podcast series covering commercial broadcast station acquisition (How to Buy a Commercial Broadcast Station) and digital sales strategy (Creating a Robust Digital Sales Strategy for Commercial Broadcasters and Media Owners).
Winston added, “We could not have undertaken this important educational program without the very generous support of GM. GM recognized that the promotion of successful entrepreneurs in the broadcast industry will help build stronger communities where potential owners acquire stations. GM also recognized that helping existing station owners diversify their operations by further developing and enhancing their digital operations and sales efforts is an important part of helping those stations serve their communities. NABOB is extremely grateful to GM for their commitment to the success of our stations and communities.”
