The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB) congratulates dentsu international, recipient of the 2022 Microsoft Advertising Global Social Impact Award for “More Than That with Gia Peppers,” which aired exclusively on NABOB member radio stations and networks.
In an online announcement for the award, Microsoft Advertising cites the following accomplishments resulting from dentsu’s transformative work with radio show and podcast “More Than That with Gia Peppers”:
“As an industry leader and long-standing Microsoft Advertising partner, dentsu international is committed to social impact and champions diversity and inclusion. Sparked by the nationwide protests against police brutality that erupted in 2020, dentsu international approached the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB) and its clients. With a goal of disrupting and addressing the inequities in the advertising supply chain, they collaborated in the creation of a radio program that was distributed by Black-owned company partners. The program (also adapted for a podcast) was a great success, not only supporting racial equality but also allowing clients to co-create and support content that addressed social justice issues that people care about.”
“More Than That with Gia Peppers” aired on more than 100 Black-owned radio stations via the Spotset NABOB Radio Network, Urban One, American Urban Radio Networks, and Café Mocha Radio. The show and supporting marketing resulted in more than $4 million invested into Black-owned media in its first year.
Jim Winston, NABOB President, shared his enthusiasm for dentsu’s win and stated, “NABOB is deeply indebted to Doug Ray and the dentsu team for spearheading this effort. When I listened to the first season of ‘More Than That with Gia Peppers,’ I knew NABOB had created a program about which we could be very proud. Hearing the second season airing with additional sponsors further cemented my view of the quality of that program. And now, seeing dentsu receive the 2022 Microsoft Advertising Global Social Impact Award, demonstrates that the quality of that program has resonated throughout the industry. Congratulations dentsu! Partnering with you on this program has been a pleasure.”
In 2021, Doug Ray, former Global Chief Product Officer, dentsu international received the NABOB & Power of Urban Radio National Service Award for his groundbreaking work in the development of “More Than That with Gia Peppers.” Doug Ray recently left dentsu to pursue a personal agenda. NABOB wishes him all the best and we thank him deeply for all that he has done for NABOB.
